Winemaker
Belgian-born Jean-Marie Guffens, who also owns vineyards in Luberon and Bordeaux, set up this trading house in 1990. The grapes are bought from winegrowers who have become true partners. Since 2006, Julien Desplans has been in charge of grape purchasing and winemaking. Together with Jean-Marie, they decide on the ageing and blending of the cuvées at Maison Verget. Production is around 200,000 bottles a year, and all the wines testify to a rare mastery at this level of volume. If possible, also try the wines of Domaine Guffens-Heynen in the Mâconnais region.
