Prestige Hotel
Located across from the Louvre-Lens Museum, this beautiful hotel has been converted from a “coron” (a cluster of former miners’ houses), which now houses 52 remarkably decorated rooms featuring restored brick walls, thick carpets, and fabrics in shades of dark green or luminous gray. The common areas, too, are filled with references to the past, featuring heavy pendant lights that once again illuminate the brick walls, sleek furniture, and black ceramic tile floors. Equally spectacular, the spacious interior of Le Galibot restaurant is highlighted by dozens of small coal-mine lamps, with walls covered in railroad ties arranged like a palisade, all enhanced by traditional colorful cement tiles. Under the guidance of Chef Franck Kasprzik, people come here to have a drink or enjoy delicious bistronomic cuisine before setting out to explore the museum’s collections. An exceptional place, it stands as a moving testament to the industrial past that has shaped the memories of the region’s people and its landscapes.
