Gault&Millau's review 2025

Opened in 1929 and intended to host Edward VIII, son of King George V and Prince of Wales, this hotel was designed by the English architect André Arfvidson in an Anglo-Saxon style reflective of the era—cheerful, elegant, and modern. After a long period of obscurity, the hotel has once again regained its former splendor thanks to designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, who restored it in 2013, setting himself a mission: “To recapture the spirit of the 1930s and its flamboyant Art Deco style, with a modern twist.” Mission (perfectly) accomplished, as the Prince of Wales now offers a refined and unique atmosphere, from the Restaurant & Bar 19.20 by Norbert Tarayre to the luxurious lobby with its ebony furniture and crystal chandeliers. The 159 rooms and suites also showcase the Art Deco spirit, as does the dining room of the gourmet restaurant Akira Back—named after its Korean-American chef—unless you’d prefer to savor the delights of the magnificent Patio and its walkways. The final highlights of this Luxury Collection hotel include a fully equipped fitness center and a spa in partnership with Calma Paris.
