There’s a bit of Hélène Barale and a bit of Pierrot Botticelli (former world stockfish champion) here at La Capeline—two champions of authentic Niçoise cuisine. The former Vescous tram station, on the road to Roquestéron, has been given a facelift without losing its chaotic charm—a blend of a cabinet of curiosities and memories of days gone by. A timeless charm for a time-honored cuisine, which has held the “Cuisine Nissarde” label since 2015. The two set menus, priced at €38 and €45, showcase the culinary expertise of Christelle and Bruno Miquelis, featuring “à la bouana franquetta,” stuffed sardines, “capoun” from the family garden—a cabbage stuffed with sun-kissed meat— country-style terrine, oven-roasted lamb shank, stuffed veal pocket, squid stuffed with meat and vegetables, and finally, tender braised beef cheek with its rich sauce, served with “naked ravioli,” the “pelotons,” made with the stew, Swiss chard, Gruyère, and Parmesan… and then, between the semi-baked chocolate cake and the “Délice de la Capeline”—a gourmet take on tiramisu—which will make us feel guilty for indulging in such a delight? A nice little wine cellar stocked with regional wines and service that’s all smiles.
