In 1868, Victor Canard, a cooper, and Léonie Duchêne, a winemaker, combined their names and expertise to found Canard-Duchêne Champagnes in Ludes, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims, amid forests of rare tree species and gently sloping vineyards. A true part of the house’s winemaking heritage, the Pinot Noir draws its strength from remarkable soil—the result of 70 million years of evolution and a blend of chalk, sand, clay, and limestone. In 2025, Cynthia Fossier became Canard-Duchêne’s tenth head winemaker. The “Charles VII” line has since been renamed “Iconic.” Their 6-kilometer-long cellars are open to visitors by appointment.
