Winery presentation by Gault&Millau
South of Bordeaux, near Cadillac, Château de Ricaud was acquired in 1980 by Alain Thiénot, who entrusted its management in 2007 to the team at Dourthe, owners of several châteaux in the region, including Belgrave, La Garde, Pey La Tour, Reysson, and many others. At Château de Ricaud, the 48 hectares—divided into 50 plots—are primarily planted with Merlot, which covers 36 hectares, supplemented by Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon Blanc, and Sémillon. In total, just four wines are produced: the Grand Vin of Château de Ricaud in the Cadillac-Côtes-de-Bordeaux appellation, Château de Ricaud from the same appellation, a white Bordeaux blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, and a Loupiac that has been nicknamed “the Yquem of the Right Bank” since the 1950s.
