Gault&Millau's review 2026

A golden color and a wine that expresses aromas of buckwheat honey, roasted notes, dried mango, and quince. On the palate, it’s intense; the sugar lends a lovely silky texture, yet it’s always balanced by a pleasant freshness that keeps your palate refreshed. The aromas unfold with notes of praline and sweet almond, as well as passion fruit and yuzu. The finish is spicy and caressing.

Montgilet
To understand Montgilet, you have to open a bottle from the “Les Cousins de Montgilet” line—a nod, as the name suggests, to the six cousins who carry on the family legacy. This story begins in the mid-19th century with René Huet, who planted a few Chenin vines on his farm in Montgilet. His daughter, Victorine Huet, along with her husband, Émile Lebreton, expanded the vineyard. They were succeeded by Victor and Eulalie, then Victor and Marie-Anne, and finally their sons, Victor and Vincent, who continued to expand the estate until it reached 65 hectares. In 2023, six cousins took over and began the transition to organic farming in 2024, focusing their efforts on managing the vineyard plots dedicated to grape varieties such as Chenin, Grolleau, Cabernet Franc, Fié Gris, Gamay, and Sauvignon Gris, which are produced under various appellations: Anjou, Coteaux-de-l’Aubance, Cabernet d’Anjou, Crémant de Loire, and Anjou-Villages Brissac.
