Bakery
For the past year, this charming bakery—located in the center of town and decorated in a retro style with old photos and antiques—has been run by Lambert Gandouet, a baker dedicated to “doing things right.” After gaining experience in high-end bakeries, pastry shops, and fine dining, he started his own business to revive the flavors of yesteryear and pass on his expertise—with great success. On the display counter, a fine selection of specialty breads (sourdough bread made with organic flour, long-life bread, cornbread, and Viking bread) complements an assortment of traditional loaves. The baker and his team also offer pastries, burger buns, and brioches with pink praline, a selection of pastries—classic during the week and festive on weekends, such as the Pavlova royale—and local specialties including the galette charentaise, a sweet treat filled with candied angelica. To help bring life to his village, this local native also runs a well-stocked newsstand and grocery section, along with a few tables for a quick meal or to enjoy market-fresh oysters with a glass of white wine on Sundays.
