The Ultimate Guide to the Best Provence Rosés for Summer

The Ultimate Guide to the Best Provence Rosés for Summer

Want to discover the best Provence rosés for summer? From iconic wineries to exceptional vintages and perfect pairings for your aperitifs and sunny meals, here’s an unmissable selection of Provence rosés that are making waves this year.

Laetitia Gautheron

Provence is the global benchmark for rosé. Nearly 90% of the region’s wine production is dedicated to rosé. On its own, it accounts for 40 to 45% of AOC rosé production in France and nearly 5% of global production.

Provence Rosés: Dominance and Diversity

This dominance can be attributed to several factors: a dry, sunny Mediterranean climate, a maritime influence, varied soils (schist, limestone, clay), and a long winemaking tradition dating back to the Phoceans who settled in Massalia (ancient Marseille) over 2,600 years ago.

All nine Provençal appellations produce rosé. These rosés are often characterized by a very pale color, great freshness, low sweetness, and fruity aromas that evoke a sense of indulgence. The three largest-producing appellations—Côtes de Provence, Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence, and Coteaux Varois en Provence—export 44% of their production abroad. Provence has established a truly international style: a light, refined, dry, and premium rosé.

But other AOCs, such as Bandol or even the lesser-known Bellet and Palette, are more full-bodied and suitable for aging.

Mas De Cadenet Sainte VictoireMas de Cadenet, Côtes de Provence Cru Saint Victoire 2025

Sainte-Victoire, the oldest complementary geographical designation (DGC) in the Côtes de Provence, has been elevated to Cru status for the 2025 vintage for both rosé and red wines. Mas de Cadenet is one of 32 winemakers with vineyards on this terroir. In addition to a rosé intended for aging, the estate offers a rosé that is perfectly balanced and delightfully indulgent. Aromas of peach, apricot, and orange blossom come together in a full-bodied, smooth profile with a slightly minty finish that adds a sense of tension. Pair it with crab rillette as an aperitif.

Château Cavalier Marafiance 2025 75clChâteau Cavalier, Côtes de Provence Cuvée Marafiance 2025

Château Cavalier is a family-owned estate of the Castel family, covering more than 130 hectares in a single block. The Marafiance cuvée, available at wine shops and restaurants, is a rosé that stands out slightly from the region’s classic rosés, with a slightly darker color and a vinous texture on the palate. With its bouquet of flowers, yellow fruits, and spices, and its briny finish, it’s the perfect table wine to pair with gravlax or white meat. On a side note, we warmly invite you to also try their white Côtes de Provence.

Domaine De La Begude 2025 RoseChâteau La Bégude, Bandol 2025

A coastal appellation, Bandol produces wines in all three colors and is known for its Mourvèdre grapes. 75% of the wines produced are rosés, and this cuvée strongly expresses the Mourvèdre grape with aromas of blackberry, peony, garrigue, and a hint of cocoa. The wine is full-bodied and rich yet retains great elegance. A wine with endless depth that whets the appetite. Enjoy it now with lamb chops and ratatouille, or cell it for a few years for some wonderful surprises.

Château D'ollières Prestige Coteaux VaroisChâteau d’Ollières, Coteaux Varois en Provence Prestige 2025

Located in the town of the same name, Château d’Ollières presents this prestige rosé as an ode to Provençal rosé. The color is a very flattering pale, soft pink, and the nose highlights white fruits—particularly peach and pear—with an exotic touch and a hint of red currant. Like its nose and color, the palate is delicate and indulgent. A wine meant for enjoyment, yet with tremendous length and character. A companion with whom you’ll never be bored. The finish, with its citrus zest, pairs perfectly with pan-seared scallops with orange.

Abbaye Sainte Marie De Pierredon Donna Rosa 2025Abbaye Sainte-Marie de Pierredon, IGP Alpilles Donna Rosa 2025

In Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, right in the heart of the Alpilles, Pierredon Abbey presents a rosé full of character. It has a salmon-pink hue, and its nose reveals notes of apple and quince with a hint of kumquat and a touch of white pepper. On the palate, it has a lovely body that remains silky, and the finish is nicely spicy. Perfect as both an aperitif and a meal accompaniment, you can serve it with an assortment of fine charcuterie.

Toasc Rosé La TramontaneDomaine de Toasc, Bellet La Tramontane 2023

Bellet is a tiny appellation on the eastern French edge of the Mediterranean, near the city of Nice. It was interesting to introduce you to a rosé from a few years back. The nose evokes a walk in the forest with notes of pine and eucalyptus, and even a hint of blackcurrant bush—a vegetal aroma without any greenness, yet full of intensity. On the palate, that same intensity carries through—it’s powerful and robust, yet accompanied by notes of citrus, peach, and fresh mint. This refreshing thread carries us throughout the tasting. The floral finish completely sweeps us away. The classic and perfect pairing: bouillabaisse.

Sainte Marquerite Fantastique Rosé 75cl 01 26Château Sainte-Marguerite Cru Classé, Côtes de Provence Fantastique 2025

This 450-hectare Cru Classé estate, certified organic, offers three lines: Symphonie, Fantastique, and Marguerites en Provence. The Fantastique Rosé 2025 is the quintessential expression of the Château’s style. It features notes of fruits such as kumquat, pear, and vine peach, combined with a hint of saltiness that transports us to the seaside. On the palate, it is full-bodied and rich while retaining a lovely freshness, with a bouquet of white flowers and garrigue. The balance between body and structure makes it equally well-suited to fish and white meats.

Rose Amista 2025 AChâteau de l’Aumérade Cru Classé, Côtes de Provence Amistà 2025

Nestled at the foot of the Massif des Maures, between the hills and the sea, this cru classé benefits from constant airflow that brings freshness and balance. This is immediately apparent in the mouthwatering aromas of pink grapefruit, crisp apricot, a smoky note, and a hint of wild strawberry. Minerality forms the backbone of this wine on the palate, with an elegance and stony character that might at times remind one more of Brittany than of the South. It’s fresh and pleasant, with a floral and raspberry finish. Best enjoyed with spider crab.
