Just a stone’s throw from Nation, Pierre Rieder’s bistro is everything you’d expect from the genre: affordable dishes and classic recipes, a warm atmosphere, and timeless decor. It’s no surprise that the place has become the neighborhood hangout; you’ll come back for hand-chopped veal tartare with confit leeks, whipped potatoes, furikake, and vinaigrette; wild saithe with fennel confit in rosemary oil, fennel shavings, fried capers, and a citrus-infused tomato vinaigrette; or a confit lamb shoulder with celery purée, peas, and Poivrade artichokes, wild garlic, kale, a XO sauce made with sun-dried tomatoes, and lamb jus.
