Gault&Millau's review 2026

12,5/20
Gourmet Restaurant
Overlooking the Loire, Philippe Bardau’s restaurant boasts one of the most beautiful panoramic views in Orléans, taking in the river, the half-timbered rooftops, and the cathedral. In this dining room, which opens widely to the outdoors, the decor features a dated modernist style with ’90s-inspired accents, blending signature design with a lounge-like atmosphere—giving the space a distinct identity that now feels slightly dated. On the plate, the chef champions ingredient-driven cuisine that is straightforward and unpretentious. The seasonal asparagus, served in generous portions, is accompanied by a rich cockle mousseline and trout roe, which add depth and saltiness, though without any real variation in flavor. The veal is served in two courses: first, a well-seasoned tartare, followed by a veal loin en croûte accompanied by a well-reduced sauce and a masterful arrangement featuring Poivrade artichokes. For dessert, the bergamot lemon soufflé—rich and perfectly executed—adheres to a classic style, with a pronounced sweetness. Attentive service complements an overall seamless dining experience, while the well-curated wine list gives pride of place to local selections. A restaurant that is solid in its execution, but whose positioning—between overt modernity and classic cuisine—must now evolve.
