Superb gold color for this bottle in a benchmark vintage. On the nose, notes of apricot jam, then toast, combine with a hint of fruit juiciness and acidity. On aeration, hints of vanilla and undergrowth emerge. Magnificent. On the palate, the wine is just splendid, imparting just the right amount of energy and complexity with toasted coffee, marmalade, crème brûlée and blond sugar. The fresh, almost minty character makes it ideal with poultry and porcini mushrooms. A textbook example of a great vintage from a great winemaker. Top-notch.

A family-owned estate for four generations, it is now managed by Francis, Charles, and Clémence Égly, who cultivate 10 hectares of Grand Cru vineyards in Ambonnay, Verzenay, and Bouzy, 2 hectares of Premier Cru Pinot Meunier on the Vrigny terroir, and 1.5 hectares—primarily Chardonnay—in Bisseuil. Their champagnes, with their velvety and spicy textures, are exceptionally precise. In recent years, the range has expanded to include vineyards on the Saint-Thierry massif northwest of Reims—specifically, 7 hectares in Trigny—where the soils are sandier and the wines exhibit a distinct character.
